JAKARTA – Philippine sports officials hope Jordan Clarkson’s stint with Team Philippines in international meets doesn’t end here.

The biggest international sports star to be part of the Philippine contingent in any multi-sports conclave, Clarkson is an inspiration and morale-booster to the Filipino athletes and supporters.

“I was with him when we were walking as we entered (the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Stadium during the march past of nations in the opening ceremonies). We were encouraged and our morale was boosted because he was cheering us on. I hope he can play in the SEA Games as well in 2019,” said Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas.

“We’re happy to be here and we’re happy to have Jordan Clarkson carry our flag,” Vargas also said.

Clarkson is definitely out for the next window of the FIBA World Cup qualifier, though. He himself said: “I don’t think so. Not right now in terms of schedule.”

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, however, said they would build on their campaign here with Clarkson.

“He will be a great asset for us,” said SBP president Al Panlilio.

“SBP will never waiver in its thrust to come up with its best team in all international competitions. We want to represent our country well,” Panlilio also said.

The Philippine sports officials are happy they’re able eventually to get Clarkson to the games.

“I am very happy to see Jordan Clarkson to finally represent the country in the Asian Games. Jordan Clarkson is a simple guy and just wants to be one of the guys. May pusong Pinoy talaga siya. I am so happy that his desire to play for his country has become a reality,” said Panlilio.

“Seeing him carry our flag during the opening ceremony and finally cleared to play for our national team, I must say that all our efforts are worth it. Lahat ng hirap sulit. Napakasarap maging Pilipino,” Panlilio added.
