NCAA suspends SSC guard, forfeits Stags’ two victories
MANILA, Philippines — The NCAA yesterday suspended San Sebastian guard RK Ilagan for playing in other leagues and forfeited two of the Stags’ victories.
NCAA Management Committee chair Frank Gusi of host Perpetual Help yesterday said San Sebastian board representative Fr. Glyn Ortega, OAR, appealed the verdict but decided to withdraw it. The school instead sacked Ilagan for three games.
The Stags thus fell from 3-6 to 1-8.
St. Benilde and Jose Rizal, the teams which SSC defeated, also improved to 4-3 and 1-6, respectively.
“The NCAA’s action on this incident, including the sanctions imposed, is in accordance with the existing NCAA Manual of Operations (MOO) and with the best interest of the league and the discipline of student-athletes in mind,” said Gusi in a statement.
