MANILA, Philippines - Gabriel Tayao Cabrera was the youngest driver among 11 of the nation’s best motorsports champions awarded the Golden Wheel trophy at the recent Golden Wheel Awards for excellence in their respective discipline last year.

Cabrera gained promince in local karting as the only junior driver to claim perfect record by topping time trials to finals in the entire seven-leg ROK series, upstaging senior karters.

“They said I was not a consistent driver and I would never become a champion.  I didn’t just chase my dream.  I worked hard at the track and harder off it, “ said Cabrera, backed by DC, Point Zero Project, Media Magic and Gold’s Gym.

He also ended the country’s seven-year title drought by winning as the Asian Junior champion of the Asian Karting Open Championship..

The 15-year-old is expected to debut as the youngest contender in the Petron Series’ premier Shifter Class this weekend. He is also slated to receive another batch motorsports honors at the Automobile Association of the Philippines Awards next month.
