Adamson softbelles extend amazing streak to 50 wins

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -- Defending four-time champion Adamson University stretched its impressive softball winning streak to 50 games, even as baseball titlist Ateneo stayed perfect in three games in UAAP Season 77 action over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

With Queenie Sabobo setting the tone by drilling a homerun in the early goings, the Lady Falcons needed only four innings to dispose University of the Philippines, 8-1, for their second straight victory on Saturday.

Adamson trails behind University of the East, which pulled off a stunning 3-2 upset over National University to grab first place with a 3-0 card.

Dio Remollo, Adrianne Bernardo and Matt Laurel went into attack mode as the Blue Eagles battered University of Santo Tomas, 12-2, in eight innings last Saturday.

Ateneo scored six runs in the sixth inning to put the game beyond recall and remain on top of the standings. The Growling Tigers suffered their first loss after winning their first two matches.

The Lady Warriors leaned on Josephine Francisco, Charlene Quintos and reigning homerun queen Roxzell Niloban in the first three innings to frustrate the Lady Bulldogs.

In the other softball match, La Salle took solo third with a 2-1 mark following its 3-1 conquest of Ateneo.  Other baseball results show the Green Batters nip the Falcons, 7-6, and the Bulldogs thwarting a late Fighting Maroons uprising for a 12-9 victory.

La Salle and NU tied UST in second place at 2-1, while UP and Adamson remained winless in three starts.
