PAL to sponsor top PSL bets in Bangkok meet

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Swim League chairman Buddy Cunanan yesterday said the PSL would be sending 25 swimmers and coaches to an international age group swimming meet in Bangkok on Dec. 1 as part of their incentives for good performance in the PSL swim circuit.

Cunanan, a businessman-sportsman, made the announcement during the awards ceremonies of the Trick or Treat competition, serving as 49th leg of the PSL Swim Series, at the Diliman Preparatory School.

The PSL trip is sponsored by Philippine Air Lines.

Over 500 medals were given away in the meet where 42 records were broken. As a further treat to the participants, PSL president Susan Papa said all record breakers will be entered free of charge in the next PSL competition, the Sen. Nikki Coseteng Swim Championships, set Nov.23-24 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

The meet’s highest awards – for most number of PSL records broken – were given to McTracy Alindogan, 12, and Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh, 7.

Alindogan hit the Quadruple A’s based on American Standard clocking in the 100m IM in 1:06.12 (US Standard 1:08.59), 50m butterfly 27.41 (US 29.99), 50m breaststroke 33.63 (34.99), 50m backstroke 29.86 (31.59) and 50m freestyle 26.95 (27.39).

Mojdeh won the 100m IM, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, breaststroke (54 sec) and freestyle (41.53).

Paula Cayanan, 13, clocked 29.9 in butterfly (US 30.79), 50m breaststroke 32.25 (33.19) and 50m freestyle 28.94 sec.

Also, Emmanuel Joshua Lorbes, 15, clocked 27.31 in the butterfly, breaking the American Standard of 28.99, and 26.11 in the freestyle.

Sean Terence Zamora clocked 27.75 in the 50m butterfly (US 29.99).
