Veteran jins lead winners in CPJ tiff

MANILA, Philippines - Veteran internationalists Camille Manalo, Elaine Alora and Brix Darmo Ramos headed the list of winners in the recent SMART CPJ (Carlos Palanca Jr.) taekwondo championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Carrying the colors of UST, Manalo bagged the gold medal in the senior women’s lightweight competition, while Delta’s Alora ruled the welterweight class. Manalo and Alora beat a couple of Delta bets – Karla Ramos and Yna Cawilt, respectively.

Team Sport’s Ramos pocketed the gold medal in the senior men’s heavyweight division at the expense of UE’s Anthony Samia.

The other gold medalists in the senior men’s and women’s categories of the major event sponsored by SMART Communications, MVP Sports Foundation, PLDT, Milo and Philippine Sports Commission were:

Women – Leigh Ann Nuguid, Delta, finweight; Lyra Tindoc, Delta, flyweight; Crizobelle Vargas, FEU, bantamweight; Ariane Asegurado, UST, featherweight; Marivic Garcia, Pio del Pilar, middleweight; and Brighty Salazar, Baguio Defenders, heavyweight,

Men – Tristan Avelino, D’Club, finweight; R-Jay del Rosario, Delta, flyweight; Wilson Dumo, Delta, bantamweight; Paul Romero, UST, featherweight; Ron Servito, SBC, lightweight; Al dela Cruz, UST, featherweight; and Kristopher Uy, Delta, middleweight.

Also emerging triumphant in the prestigious tourney were: 

Junior women – Irene Bermejo, NTU-Tigers, finweight; Joanna Razon, DPS-SSA, flyweight; Zia Baluyot, D’Club, bantamweight; Abi Cham, Vas Gym, featherweight; Suzzane Caslangan, Baguio Defenders, lightweight; Farrah Regis, Montea, welterweight; and Patricia Gonzales, D’Club, lightmiddleweight.
