Hernandez, pal top Yulo Memorial golf
MANILA, Philippines - Antonio Hernandez and Bobby Iñigo combined for 166 to capture the overall championship in the 34th Jose Yulo Memorial golf tournament at the north and south courses of the Canlubang golf complex in Laguna last weekend.
Hernandez and Iñigo pooled an 82 in the first round then closed out with an 84 as they nipped the Joey Huerva-Dave Hernandez pair (81-84-165) for the crown in the annual 36-hole, member-guest event held in honor of the former Speaker and hosted by Cangolf.
Antonio Ong and Nelson Lim assembled a 162 from rounds of 76 and 86 to finish third in the tournament backed by hole-in-one sponsors Mitsubishi Motors Corp., Diamoind Motors Corp., Club Car Phils., The Turf Company, Taylor Made and Mizuno.
Hernandez and Iñigo brought home a Samsung LED TV 32” plus trophy each while Huerva and Hernandez received Devant LED 26” TVs plus DVD players. Ong and Lim won a BlackBerrycurse9300 each.
Gabriel Manotoc and Sebastian Lorenzo took the low team gross crown with a 148 from a pair of 74s while Abe Rosal won the individual low gross plum with a 79, edging Lorenzo, who had a 77.
Sharing the spotlight were Naoki Kogawa, who drove home a brand-new Mitsubishi Lancer EX GLX, and Kazuo Tsuji who won a Sony LED 42” with home theater system in the raffle draw.
Other daily winners were Akira Arai and Ryozo Sato (85-north) and Elpidio Rosario and Nick Sayoc (83-north), Allan Macasaet and Winston Mapua (83-south) and Kenji Ichimiya and Ding Ramilo (82-south).
