Andrada Cup tourney lures top junior netters

MANILA, Philippines - The 23rd Andrada Cup will be held Jan. 2-8 with the country’s leading junior players and upcoming stars tipped to clash for top honors in various divisions at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Registration is ongoing, according to the organizing Philta (Philippine Tennis Association) with those who competed in the recent PSC/Philta age group championship expected to collide again in the upcoming Group I tournament initiated by Philippine sports commissioner Buddy Andrada.

Listup ends tomorrow at 12 noon with the draw set at 2 p.m. at the Philta office, according to Philta administrative assistant Loida Mallare. The tournament referee is Pereme Alina (0927-5145642).

Draw sheets and order of play will be posted at the bulletin board at the RMTC and also on Facebook (search for 23rd Andrada Cup).

Meanwhile, Philta also advised all players to renew their 2012 Philta pins.

Ma. Angela Sunga and Calvin Canlas, who ruled the centerpiece 18-under division in the PSC netfest, are fancied to lead the cast along with 16-U champions Roxanne Resma and Marcen Angelo Gonzales, and 14-U winners Erika Manduriao and Julian Dayrit.

Other events on tap are the boys and girls’ 12-U, the 10-unisex singles and the 18-U, 14-U and 10-unisex doubles. Matches will be played from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Players may enter in two singles and one doubles event while a triple entry is also allowed. Entry fee is pegged at P300 per category in both the singles and doubles events.
