WNCAA meet up in Biñan

MANILA, Philippines - The sixth National WNCAA (Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association) gets under way beginning today with the staging of the “Mayor Len Len Alonte Cup” featuring competitions in basketball and volleyball among eight teams in Biñan, Laguna.

Multi-titled Lyceum of the Philippines, the defending champion in both events, heads the cast in the four-day sportsfest, which Biñan will be hosting for the first time. It is held in honor of the first lady mayor of the city, Marlyn “Len Len” Alonte Naguiat.

Mayor Alonte Naguiat will grace the inaugurals and make the ceremonial toss at 8 a.m. at the Biñan Multi Purpose Hall along with Mar Alonte, chairman of the organizing committee and Ernesto Capunitan, chairperson of the secretariat.

Out to foil the Lady Pirates’ title-retention bid are University of Asia and the Pacific, University of Perpetual Help System, Laguna, De La Salle-Dasmariñas, University of Sta. Isabel of Legazpi City, Ateneo de Naga, Tarlac State University and Faith School Batangas.

The basketball competitions will be held at the Biñan Multi Purpose Hall while volleyball will be played at the University of Perpetual Laguna gym.

Meanwhile, the cheerleading competition of the WNCAA will be held Feb. 20 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The WNCAA is backed by Monster Radio RX 93.1, Goody, IBC 13, Manila Bulletin, Sports Digest, Muscle Tape, Burlington BioFresh, MJC Press and Macgraphics Carranz.
