Lady Stags shoot down Falcons, make Final 4

-

San Sebastian College, drawing a solid game from Lou Ann Latigay, repulsed Adamson, 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, yesterday to complete the Final Four cast in the Shakey’s V-League second conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

Guest player Suzanne Roces came away with a couple of running spikes while Rysabelle Devanadera banged away a kill and scored on a block in the fourth set as the Lady Stags foiled the Lady Falcons’ bid to send the match into a deciding set to clinch the victory.

Latigay unloaded 23 hits, including 22 kills, as she spearheaded the Lady Stags attack to join Adamson (5-2), La Salle (5-2), and UST (5-1) in the Final Four set to start Friday.

It was SSC’s fourth win in six games, hoping to improve to 5-2 with a victory over St. Benilde at the close of the single round elims tomorrow.

UST subdued Lyceum, 25-23, 25-10, 25-20, in the first game to gain the solo lead at 5-1. A victory against Ateneo tomorrow will give the Tigresses the No. 1 spot in the Final Four where they will face the No. 4 squad in a best-of-three series.

“We don’t mind which team we will play in the semis as long as my players are in tip-top form,” said SSC coach Roger Gorayeb.

Adamson took the third set to thwart SSC’s sweep bid but failed to stop the Lady Stags’ charge in the fourth frame behind Latigay’s back-to-back hits that gave the Recoletos-based squad a 19-13 lead.

Earlier, the Tigresses racked up nine straight points in the third set, overcoming a 16-20 deficit and completing the straight-set win.
