PSC natuwa sa performance ng Phl Arafura team

DARWIN, Australia - Ipinagmalaki ng Philippine Sports Commission ang magandang ipinamalas ng mga atleta sa katatapos na 2019 Arafura Games dito.

Ang lahat ng 91 regional athletes na sumabak sa kanilang mga events ay nakapag-ambag sa nahakot na 31 golds, 51 silvers at 34 bronzes.

Ayon kay PSC national training director Marc Velasco, ang Arafura Games ang nagbigay ng pagkakataon sa mga regional athletes na makakuha ng international exposure na makakatulong sa kanila para maging national athletes.

Ang paglahok sa naturang kompetisyon ay bahagi ng grassroots development program ng PSC na pinangungunahan ni chairman William Ramirez kung saan lumahok ang mga top performers mula sa Batang Pinoy, Philippine Natio-nal Games at Palarong Pambansa.

 “Overall, we are very happy and I think the chairman is very satisfied with our performance,” wika ni Velasco. “It goes to show that you give a chance to our regional athletes, it would pay dividends in the long run. The athletes real-ly competed and did their best. They gave their all,” dagdag pa nito.

Bukod sa hindi pag-atras sa mga laban ay nagpakita rin ang mga Pinoy athletes ng sportsmanship partikular sina trackter Abegail Manzano at muay athlete Ariel Lee Lampacan.

Ibinigay ni Manzano, itinakbo ang unang gold medal ng bansa mula sa kanyang panalo sa women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, ang nakamit niyang silver medal sa women’s 800-meter run kay Makayla Siddons ng Northern Territory.
