Thai team sasabak sa PSL Invitational

MANILA, Philippines – Isang bigating club team mula sa Thailand ang ma­kikipagsukatan ng lakas laban sa mga local squads sa  2016 PSL Invitational Cup na hahataw sa Feb. 18 sa The Arena sa San Juan.

Tiniyak kahapon ni Phi­lippine Superliga (PSL) pre­sident Ramon “Tats” Su­zara ang pagdating ng Thai squad matapos ang kanyang pakikipag-usap sa Thailand Volleyball Association.

“Our goal is not only to provide excitement, but also to give PSL teams a chance to compete against the best club team in the region and, probably, in Asia,” wika ni Suzara.

Inaasahan ni Suzara na dadagsa ang mga volleyball fans sa nasabing prestihiyosong torneo na isasaere nang LIVE ng TV 5.

“It’s going to be an exci­ting tournament and it will be interesting to see how our local club teams will fare against our Thais visitors,” dagdag pa nito.

Hindi pa tukoy ni Suza­ra, isang ranking executive ng International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) at Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), ang Thai team, ngu­­nit sinabing lalaban ang koponan sa semifinals kon­tra sa tatlong qualifiers ng torneo na magsisilbing pam­pagana para sa All-Filipino Cup at Grand Prix.

Ang Thailand ay kila­lang bigatin sa women’s volleyball sa rehiyon at ang kanilang women’s national team ay 12 sunod na beses pumitas ng gold medal sa Southeast Asian Games.

Ang mga Thais ang nag­domina sa nakaraang 28th Southeast Asian Games sa Singapore no­ong 2015 kung saan pu­mang-lima ang Pilipinas.

Kabilang sa mga elite teams sa Volleyball Thailand League ay ang 3BB Nak­honnont, Nakhon Rat­chasima, Supreme Chon­buri E-Tech at Bangkok Glass -- ang reigning champion na binabande­rahan ng mga national team members na sina Pleumjit Thinkaow, Pornpun Guedpard at dating PSL reinforcement Wanida Kotruang.

Inaasahang tatapat sa Thai team ang Petron at Foton na naglaban sa nakaraang Grand Prix Finals.

Magbabalik ang three-time champion Philippine Army bukod pa sa Cignal at rookie teams na F2 Logitics at San Jose Builders.
