MANILA, Philippines -- Matapos hindi makapasok sa Final 4 nitong nakaraang taon, nagpasiklab kaagad ang dating five-peat champion Ateneo de Manila University sa unang salang nila sa UAAP season 77 basketball tournament ngayong Linggo sa Araneta Coliseum.
 
Dinurog ng Blue Eagles ang walang kalaban-labang Adamson University, 79-57, sa pangunguna ng skipper na si Kiefer Ravena na tumabo ng 22 points at tig-apat na rebounds at assists.
 
Umayuda pa ang sophomore na si Chris Newsome ng 12 markers at walong boards, habang nagpakitang gilas naman ang rookie na si Arvin Tolentino na bumakas ng 12 puntos, anim dito ay three points.
 
"I just made sure that at the back of their minds they're thinking that we are better than we were before last season," wika ni head coach Bo Perasol. "I encouraged them to do it all the way."
 
Lumobo ang kalamangan sa 29 puntos, 72-43, matapos ang floater ng point guard na si Nico Elorde sa 5:26 ng huling yugto at mula noon ay hindi na nakahabol pa ang Soaring Falcons.
