Painting brings art to MRT commuters

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (UE CFAAD) has donated a painting to the management of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT).

The painting “Bridges” by UE-CFAAD secretary Don Amorsolo is on display at the North Avenue station, northbound side, of MRT 3 along EDSA near the TriNoma mall.

This initiative is UE’s contribution to the Department of Transportation and Communications’ efforts at placing works of art in commercial spaces, particularly in bringing art to the commuting public by utilizing spaces in MRT stations.

Amorsolo, grandson of National Artist Fernando, said his painting signifies the metal qualities of trains and station structures: structure integrity, vibrancy and energy. The painting is also meant to attract train passengers’ gazes without their having to come to a full stop, and can serve as a therapeutic respite after what is often a crowded and bustling train ride.
