The Imax experience has arrived. SM Prime Holdings and the Sy Family formally launched the San Miguel-Coca Cola Imax theater at the sprawling SM Mall of Asia.
Imaxs cutting-edge cinematic technology was recently celebrated before a group that was all excited to "hear more, see more and feel more" of Imax.
A massive synthetic snow-capped mountain display welcomed guests into the lobby as they were treated to cocktails and live music. They were then led into the cavernous San Miguel-Coca Cola theater with 600 plush recliner seats and one of the worlds biggest eight-story-high 3D movie screens.
A spectacular laser show opened the launch as guests of honor SM Prime Holdings Ric Camaligan, Coca Cola and San Miguels Bobby Huang, Canadian Ambassador Peter Sutherland and Imaxs Jim Patterson and Don Savant welcomed guests and spoke about the Imax technology.
All watched the premier of prehistoric spectacular T-Rex followed by the award-winning film Everest, with upcoming 3D Hollywood films such as Poseidon, Deep Blue Sea, Polar Express, Happy Feet and Superman Returns scheduled for June 28. Now is the time to head over to the Mall of Asia and enjoy the Imax experience.
The Queens Birthday Party (QBP) is an annual gathering hosted by the British Embassy in Manila to celebrate both the continuing reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the strong friendship between the Philippines and the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
The QBP was held at the residence of British Ambassador Peter Beckingham in Forbes Park. Though the Queens real birthday is on April 21, it is officially celebrated in June.
This year was made special by the presence of two Gurkha soldiers of the British Army who played the bagpipes to welcome guests. The Gurkhas, the long serving soldiers of the Nepalese descent, have been rendering service to the British and Indian Armies since the 19th century. The Gurkha regiments have serviced Burma, Malta, China, France, Palestine, Mesopotamia, Persia, Singapore, Gallipoli, Salonika and Arabia.
Queen Elizabeth II, who is a patron of more than 620 charities and organizations, is the 40th monarch since William the Conqueror obtained the crown of England.
The QBP was attended by government official, diplomats, businessmen, journalists and other key British and Filipino personalities.
The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) staged the first-ever Search for Mr. & Ms. Dragon Boat Philippines at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
The candidates were representatives chosen from various teams or clubs affiliated with the federation. Adjudged winners were Arvin Gilmore and Pearl Aragon, both members of the Manila Blazing Paddles. First runners-up were Greg Doronila (Manila Dragons Team) and Jenny Escueta (PDRT Fireblades). Second runners-up were Ronald dela Cruz (RCP Sea Dragons) and Joyna Bartolome (Blue Phoenix).
The winners of the Mr. & Ms. Dragon Boat won a free trip to Macau courtesy of Air Macau. The first runners-up get a round trip ticket to anywhere in the Philippines from Fiesta Tours & Travel and the second runners-up received overnight accommodations at the Ambassador Hotel. Winning female candidates received jewelry from Silverline.
The pageant search is part of the campaign and fundraising project to be able to send a representative club team to the World Club Crew Championships in Canada next month.
All the candidates were provided gowns during the evening wear competition by entertainment and fashion designer Raoul Ramirez. The hair and makeup was courtesy of Victor Palmos. Swimwear was provided by Zon 7 and footwear by Mojo Sandals. They all received gift certificates from Photoline and gift items from Macau Government Tourism Office. Event sponsors included Power Up Fitness Gym, Action & Fitness Magazine, Star City, Xtreme Concepts, Typhoon8 Paddling products, Sogo Regency Hotel and Victoria Court.
The panel of judges was composed of celebrity and former rower Maritoni Fernandez, journalist Howie Severino, Action & Fitness editor-in-chief Andy Leuterio, veteran rower and fashion designer Raoul Ramirez, Zon 7 swimwear designer Rolando Ogayon and marketing consultant of Photoline Wilhelm Ong.
The pageant was directed by veteran rower and actor Rolando Inocencio and hosted by Thou Reyes. Featured guests were the Brownbeat All-Star, Milagros Dance Collective and Elemento Band. Dance numbers were performed by DLSU and UP Dragon Boat Teams.

The Pinoys answer to Las Vegas shows is Club Mwah. Their new dance repertoire is called Bedazzled 5 and offers surprises never before presented at the Club.
Club Mwah is classy yet affordable. Their performances are not limited to "imported" as they also showcase Filipiniana numbers with a Vegas twist. The club was recently accredited by the Department of Tourism as a Tourism Entertainment Club. Owner Pocholo Malillin says, "Every establishment yearns for this and Club Mwah is the first awardee this year."
The club opened in 2004 and is owned by Pocholo and Chris Nicolas. The stars of Club Mwah are getting good reviews that they have a standing invitation to perform in Guam and there are ongoing negotiations for a performance in Beijing, China.
Club Mwah opens for dinner at 8:30 p.m. Disco or ballroom dancing is at 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Bring your own partner or dance instructor. Showtime is at 10 p.m. Valet parking is free.
