60's video makes Filipinos cry 'I want the old Philippines!'

MANILA, Philippines - A 1960's video narrated in German recently uploaded to Facebook shows Manila's clean streets, scenic locations and local recreation.

Most of those who have seen the clip like Jayson Recto wished that the country today still looked like it was 60 years ago.

"I want the old Philippines," Recto, a Facebook user, said.

Billy Rubin also longed for the past. "I guess its just human nature to have a longing for the past. In the Philippines case the past was actually better than the present, the future is not looking any rosier either. [This] is just my opinion," he said.

Recto observed that back in the 60's, the country looked "simple" but "full of happiness," while Jason Quiamzon observed how Filipinos then carried themselves with dignity.

Others also wished that native games like sipa is still recognized and played today.

"Sipa as a sport played like volleyball. Sa ngayon kasi sa lumang postcards na lang nakikita to," Julz Tabaranza said.

Others also complained about the metro's worsening traffic conditions and wished its streets were as free now as they were then.

"Some of those buses and many of those Jeeps are still plying routes within the Metropolis," American expat Gregory Dorris posted.

Facebook page "Philippines, My Philippines" uploaded the documentary travelogue entitled "New Horizons: The Philippines" was directed by Harry Coleman and produced by Movie To News, Inc. early Thursday and has since then been shared over 500 times in the social network.
