My 2 pennies worth

MIND YOUR BODY - The Philippine Star

Unlike any other event in the history of our land, we are currently experiencing a tremendous change no one has ever thought of to occur.  The pace of this renewal is so fast that we feel a sense of shock and awe.  Even without poring over the nitty gritty of these developments, one can sense the electrostatic current in the atmosphere bringing forth ambivalence among the populace. This sudden shift in our humdrum existence is brought about by one particular man in the person of our present leader, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

That being said, we are now facing a magnificent challenge – a challenge so great that it evolves around our future and the future of incoming generations.

The humongous question here is our willingness to achieve the almost impossible task of rebuilding our lives through ways and means our leader is brandishing in our faces.

Are we supposed to kowtow and merely go with the flow of his undaunted wave and just surmise that everything will be in order, all concerns attended to, and that we will surpass all hardships towards a new day?

I fear for the man. He is so much in a hurry. To achieve his goals, he turns nights into days and vice versa. He speaks and acts so deliberately at times placing himself in dire conditions and situations. Although nothing seems to shake the man out of his wits, he should slow down and carefully assess and re-assess in detail every decision and every move he makes, rather than shooting from his hips and jumping without testing the waters.

He is fighting a battle in all corners of the arena, that is obvious. He is in a hurry to implement his ever so drastic plans and programs. Land mines are scattered wherever he turns. He is in every crosshair of snipers among his hostile and bitter adversaries.

I am terrified of the consequences even if he says that he is not afraid, foresees possible failure on his part, and is ready to meet his creator. These words make him dearer, closer and more loved by his believers. He depicts himself of the masses, by the masses, and for the masses, most of all the future generations. — ITOK TOLENTINO, Surrey, BC, Canada
