Enforce traffic rules strictly

- L. Celeste Canta Jr., Pandacan, Manila -

MANILA, Philippines - Ordinarily, some traffic chaos in Metro Manila are caused by undisciplined and arrogant drivers.

In Manila, in some portions of Mabini street in Ermita both sides are used as parking areas. The situation is worsened when some vehicles/vans load/unload passengers and products. As a result, there is just one lane for other vehicles to pass by.

In Sta. Cruz at the back of the church, motorcycles are counter flowing creating confusion among passersby and pedestrians.

Fronts of exclusive schools are also the scene of heavy traffic caused by some students who park their cars in front of the gates while some load/unload their passengers in the same area.

The La Salle-Greenhills in San Juan and De la Salle University on Taft Avenue are some typical examples of heavy traffic caused by car-riding students.

In many places especially corner streets, jeepneys block other vehicles while waiting for passengers. Jeepneys and buses stop even when light is green. And while waiting for the traffic light to turn left, vehicles form three queues blocking other vehicles going straight. Calesas, sidecars and other slow moving vehicles worsen the situation.

Enforcing traffic rules strictly will ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila.
