Donation of paper microscope creates possibilities for students

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), and the world’s largest express transportation company, delivered lightweight, portable and completely functional paper microscopes called foldscopes to Lingunan National High School (LNHS) before the start of the school year. The donation makes it possible for students to have a hands-on learning experience in their science classes.

FedEx Express facilitated the safe and efficient delivery of 40 foldscopes donated by the inventor himself, Dr. Manu Prakash of Stanford University. LNHS adviser Jeffrey de Leon, shares that the cost of shipping the foldscopes from the US was a challenge for them and they are grateful that FedEx stepped in to help.

This contribution is part of FedEx efforts to create a positive impact in the communities where it operates.

The company is ahead of plan for its FedEx Cares goal of investing $200 million in more than 200 global communities by 2020. FedEx has already invested in more than 200 communities and is on track to meet the total contribution goal early. In FY18 alone, the company invested more than $55 million in corporate charitable contribution.
