Oratio Imperata

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

It says here that HPG cops manning the traffic gridlock in Metro Manila want a supply of sunblock, water jugs, vitamins, etc. "Oh, my God!" exclaimed a newspaper reader. "They should work in a beauty shop to protect their delicate complexion from the sun."

Commented another reader: "Have you heard of any single MMDA traffic enforcer asking for sunblock?" He said the MMDA traffic enforcers sweat it out under the sun. "Bayot ray mahadlok maigo og init sa adlaw."

* * *

MMDA enforcers work not only under the heat of the sun but also under the heat of abusive motorists.

As I write this (Saturday, Sept. 12/15) someone texted me this inspiring line she saw at the bottom page of a page in today's PhilSTAR: "All of God's promises are backed by His wisdom, love and power." That's God's. That's different from politicians' promises.

The anti-US activists are at it again, though a little late. The streamer they brandished in their demo outside the US Embassy said: "Junk APEC. Fight US imperialist plunder in Phl." My source said: "They didn't rate a second look from pedestrians." He said he saw no press fotogs around.

"Nagkagamay na lang sila," said my source, a Cebuano from Sampaloc, Manila. Mura'g gipul-an nang mga tawo aning mga rali-rali batok sa ilang kanunay gisinggit nga US Imperialist. Nag-selfie-selfie na lang sila."

Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has again circulated among Catholics the Oratio Imperata prayer in times of calamities, deluge, and pestilence. This time it's intended to seek God's intervention amid the onslaught of the El Niño.
