Daang Matuwid is a total failure

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

For our special presentation on our talk show “Straight from the Sky,” we bring to you a human interest story of a hard-working Cebuano who left Cebu for a better life in Dubai and eventually returned to Cebu to become an entrepreneur and opened a school to teach fellow Cebuanos what he knows best, welding. It’s my honor to introduce to you Mr. Edward Dampor, who is a unique Filipino because while he started his life as a barber, he later worked in COACO to be a welder and later he became an Overseas Filipino Worker in Dubai Aluminum. Then he returned to Cebu to become a businessman and founder of Brilliant Metal Craft.

Today, Mr. Dampor teaches Cebuanos to be welders and many of them are able to get well-paying jobs overseas. Mr. Dampor also manufacturse and sells oxygen generators, where his clients, many of them hospitals no longer use oxygen tanks, which can be clean from the outside, but rusty inside. So watch this very interesting interview of a very interesting Cebuano on SkyCable’s channel 61 at 8:00 tonight with replays on Wednesday and Saturday. We also have replays on MyTV channel 30 at 9:00 tonight and at 7:00AM and 9:00PM on Wednesday and Friday.

Today, President Benigno Aquino III will have his 5th and final State of the Nation Address and already so many groups and a lot of pundits have already made their own SONAs for PNoy and I don’t blame them. 5 years is a long time to see a nation, literally stagnate or worse, retrogress. We could give you a litany of the sins of the Aquino Regime, but it would probably take five columns to fill. So let’s just go into the most glaring examples that happened only this year.

A case in point is the Metro Rail Transit, which was running very well more than 5 years ago without any hitch. But when the corruption in the MRT was publicly reported by the Czech Ambassador Josef Rychtar, no one believed his word because the Aquino propaganda machinery made sure that this corrupt deal was kept under wraps.

Then two years ago, the MRT trains started to falter and one train could not stop and got derailed at the end of the line in Taft Ave. Now only a few trains are running and MRT general manager Al Vitangcol is in hot water with the Office of the Ombudsman. But to the embarrassment of Daang Matuwid, Department of Transportation & Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Jr. was not charged by the Ombudsman even if his signature appears in that deal. How could this happen?

This only proves to one and sundry that PNoy’s backbone program dubbed “Daang Matuwid” is a total and complete failure! For sure, PNoy would boast about his anti-corruption programs… but keep silent when it hits his friends or members of his cabinet. Let’s now go to the most glaring news that hugged the headlines only a few days ago. This was when the same Office of the Ombudsman literally cleared Pres. Aquino from any liability in the death of the 44 members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force who were killed in that infamous Mamasapano massacre in Maguindanao last January 25th.

But the same Ombudsman will be filing charges of grave misconduct, graft, and usurpation of official functions under Art. 177 of the revised Penal Code against former PNP Chief Director General Allan Purisima and former SAF Commander Getulio Napeñas and nine other officials of the PNP. Again, under Daang Matuwid, the small fries get charged while the Office of the Ombudsman protects the big fish.

As we all know, the ex-PNP chief usurped his powers because he was suspended by the Ombudsman for corruption. So we ask you, do you think that the ex-PNP chief would get himself involved in Oplan Exodus unless someone higher than him ordered him to be part of this plot? Of course many Filipinos know that Pres. PNoy is a buddy-buddy of Allan Purisima, so it had to be the President who asked Purisima to be on board the Oplan Exodus debacle. Of course we shall not be hearing the President admitting all this in his SONA today. All we can say is… almost everyone is in agreement that Pres. Aquino’s 5-year Presidency was a total failure.

The crisis that has beset the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) was something that no one expected to happen. But it did. We all saw that YouTube video of Felix “Angel” Manalo, brother of INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo making a desperate appeal for help, which included a voice clip of his mother Cristina “Tenny” Manalo, mother of the INC Executive Minister. So what really is happening in the INC? Let’s see if the DOJ has the guts to investigate this very powerful church organization or is this just an idle talk?
