MANILA, Philippines — The Manila local government increased the assistance to jeepney drivers who conduct "libreng sakay" to P3,500.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 31, Manila said it increased assistance to jeepney drivers by P500, from the previous P3,000.

In the same program, which started on March 27, jeepney drivers were guaranteed P3,000 daily to facilitate free transit to passengers amid soaring oil prices due to the tensions in the Middle East.

The increase in assistance takes effect on Tuesday.

On March 30, oil firms announced an increase in their petroleum products amid some fuel products reaching over P130 per liter.

Increase in diesel products, which are used by jeepneys, ranged from P10 to P12.90 per liter.
