Cop wounded in Davao ‘shootout’

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A policeman was wounded during an alleged shootout with suspected members of a crime group in Davao City on Monday night.

Six suspects were arrested and several illegal firearms were seized following the incident that occurred in Barangay Bunawan, police said.

Pat. Geordy Fiel of the Davao region police-13th Special Action Company was rushed to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Fiel and a team of police officers were about to serve a search warrant for firearms, explosives and narcotics on a property owned by a certain Rey-Rey when the suspect’s companions allegedly opened fire at them, triggering a shootout.

The team seized from the suspects a rifle, shotgun and two handguns.
