MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos will lead the inauguration tomorrow of the new e-gates system at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

The system is expected to reduce waiting time by enabling passport scanning and facial recognition technology at arrival and departure areas.

Immigration agents will operate the e-gates system powered by Amadeus, a global travel technology provider.

The project combines New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) funding with operational components provided by the Bureau of Immigration.

New e-gates have been installed at the NAIA Terminal 1.

Marcos will be accompanied by NNIC president Ramon Ang, Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado and Manila International Airport Authority general manager Eric Ines.

Ang’s goal is to “make each part of the airport more comfortable for passengers” and “reduce bottlenecks,” according to Ines.

Over 50 million airport passengers were processed last year, surpassing NAIA’s original design capacity.

Introducing automated systems is a key step in supporting efficient passenger flow as travel volumes continue to increase, Viado said.
