LTO suspends 10 NAIA drivers for overcharging

MANILA, Philippines — For overcharging passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and engaging in illegal contracting, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the licenses of 10 taxi and Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) drivers for 90 days.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said show-cause orders (SCOs) were issued to the drivers following a surprise inspection on June 25 at the NAIA terminals.

“We have informed these drivers of the suspension of their licenses for 90 days. In other words, they have no work during that period because they took advantage of commuters,” Mendoza said.

The crackdown on abusive taxi and TNVS drivers at the NAIA will continue to make the country’s main gateway a discipline zone and protect passengers, he said.

Mendoza had ordered the regular deployment of LTO enforcers at the airport amid viral incidents of overpriced taxi fares on social media. 

A taxi driver charged a passenger P1,300 for a trip between NAIA Terminals 2 and 3. Another collected over P5,000 from a passenger traveling from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

A motorcycle taxi rider who charged P2,000 from the airport to Cainta in Rizal is also under investigation.
