LTO summons 205 driving schools

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office has issued show-cause orders to 205 driving schools for multiple violations, including tampering with the LTO’s computer systems and the improper issuance of driving course certificates.
Among the violations committed by driving schools are bypassing the Land Transportation Management System to upload more theoretical driving course and practical driving course certificates than the daily limit set by the LTO.
Eighty-eight LTO district office heads have been required to submit explanations for their alleged failure to act or prevent irregularities in their jurisdictions.
Last month, over 100 driving schools were suspended by the LTO for questionable practices.
The LTO had also asked around 40 local officials to explain their role in the alleged illegal transfer of ownership of vehicles seized during police operations.
The agency is planning to issue show-cause orders to 160 medical clinics suspected of issuing medical certificates to applicants without actual physical examinations.
