4 robbers posing as riders nabbed in Makati

MANILA, Philippines — Four motorcycle-riding men, posing as transport service drivers, were arrested in Makati Thursday night after robbing a vendor at gunpoint.

Authorities said the four, whose names were withheld, are part of the notorious Batang City Jail gang.

They were on two motorcycles, tailing each other and circling parts of Makati to find targets, usually employees who stay up late at night or during payday.

“The suspects were wearing Joyride uniforms and MoveIt vests – deceitful tactics that show how organized their group was,” said Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office.

Police found a hand grenade, .38-caliber revolver, replica pistol and uniforms from ride-hailing companies from the four suspects, aged between 23 and 26.

They would wear the uniforms over their clothing and remove these after committing a robbery, Aberin said.

Police previously told The STAR that they are intensifying efforts to target motorcycle-riding criminals who disguise themselves as food delivery or transport service riders.

Capt. Jenibeth Artista, Makati police spokesperson, said authorities are coordinating with the food delivery or transport service firms in the wake of the new scheme.

Charges for robbery, gun ban violation and illegal possession of firearms and explosives are being readied against the four.
