Man takes 2 women hostage in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Two women were held hostage by a man inside a shop along Recto Avenue in Manila yesterday afternoon.
The suspect identified only as Jong was reportedly a fixer.
Armed with two knives, the suspect took hostage the shop’s employee and a customer, according to police.
After negotiations with police, the hostage-taker released the victims unharmed and surrendered to authorities.
Manila Police District intelligence division chief Lt. Col. John Guiagui said the suspect demanded P20,000 for the victims’ release.
“When I handed over the money to him, the suspect threw away the knives and surrendered,” Guiagui said.
The suspect took the women hostage following a dispute with his employers over his earnings, probers said.
He was taken to the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center before he was brought to the Manila Police District Station 3.
