MANILA, Philippines — At least 200 families lost their homes when a fire razed a residential area in Muntinlupa City yesterday morning.

In a report, the Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze started at the house owned by Rowena Cantos in Barangay Alabang at 4:48 a.m.

At least 40 firetrucks responded to the fire, which reached second alarm before it was put out at 9:42 a.m.

No one was reported injured in the incident. Damage to property was placed at P750,000.

Arson investigators said they have yet to determine what caused the fire.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon visited the residents displaced by the fire, who took shelter at the Alabang Elementary School.

The affected residents received food packs and non-food items from the city government.

According to Biazon, local officials would be coordinating with the national government to ask for further assistance for the displaced families.
