SC reduces workforce in courts under alert levels
MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered courts in areas under COVID Alert Levels 1 and 2 to implement a 50 to 75 percent workforce until April 30.
In a circular issued on Monday, Court Administrator Raul Villanueva said courts and judicial offices under Alert Level 1 or higher would remain physically open.
”All judges are... allowed or permitted until April 30 to conduct fully remote videoconferencing hearings, for at most thrice in a week, regardless of their location in the country, with notice to the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA),” the circular read.
Judges without a court space but have their own personnel are allowed a skeleton workforce of 30 percent.
The SC also barred Saturday duty and night courts.
“Pleadings, motions and other court submissions may be filed or served by registered mail, through the services of duly accredited private couriers, or by transmitting them through electronic mail in accordance with existing electronic filing guidelines,” the OCA said.
