MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will install navigational lanterns in Batanes to ensure the safe passage and entry of motorized boats and other vessels to ports and harbors in the province.

The PCH said these lanterns also warn seafarers about the archipelagic province’s ”shallow and perilous rocky coasts.”

The PCG said the navigational lanterns would be installed in four critical lighthouses in Sabtang, Mahatao, Ivana and Valanga.

The BRP Gabriela Silang brought the navigational lanterns to Batanes yesterday.

The PCG said Task Force Kaligtasan sa Karagatan would oversee the installation of the navigational lanterns as well as intensify the enforcement of maritime safety laws, conventions and treaties.

Five navigational buoys had earlier been installed in the Kalayaan Island Group, particularly in Lawak, Likas, Pag-asa and Parola.
