Abra town mayor faces raps over road mishap
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Mayor Marcelo Padilla of Daguioman, Abra is facing charges of homicide and physical injury following a road accident that left a day care teacher dead and another injured.
Police said Padilla’s pickup hit Emerita Tubera, 53, and Mariso Sison, 55, along the Abra-Ilocos Sur National Road in Barangay Tangadan in San Quintin, Abra on Oct. 31.
Tubera died while being treated in a hospital, where Sison remains in critical condition.
Police said Padilla was driving his Ford Raptor when he lost control of the wheel and hit a concrete barrier and the two pedestrians.
Padilla was with Vice Mayor Salma Padilla when the accident occurred.
The mayor surrendered to Mayor Amador Diaz of San Quintin town.
