Teen shot dead in Caloocan

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A teenager was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants in Caloocan City last week.

Joshua Evangelista, 19, spent the last three years of his life in a juvenile jail until he was killed along C-3 Road in Barangay 28.

In a Facebook post, Fr. Flavie Villanueva said Evangelista was described by his family as “helpful, kind” and a “homebuddy” since he was freed from detention in March last year.

Villanueva said his death continued the pattern of shady killings of drug suspects who had been freed from jail.

The priest visited the wake of Evangelista on Tuesday.

Evangelista was among those arrested by police during Oplan Tokhang operations in Caloocan in 2016 on charges of drug possession.

Evangelista died from six gunshots to the body. He also bore bruises, indicating that he was tortured by the suspects, Villanueva said.
