MANILA, Philippines — Two South Korean detainees escaped from the detention facility of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at the Southern Police District headquarters in Taguig after stealing a policeman’s firearm on Saturday night.

Police identified the escapees as Hyeok Soo Kwon and Yeong Jun Lim, who were arrested in an entrapment operation for fraud and illegal detention in Parañaque last June.

According to a police report, Hyeok and Yeong beat up the jail guard after unlocking their cell to allow them to use the toilet at around 11 p.m.

CIDG agents recaptured Hyeok on Sunday at a construction site along Lawton Avenue. Yeong is still being hunted by police.
