Aftershocks jolt Surigao Sur
MANILA, Philippines — More than a dozen aftershocks of the magnitude 5.7 earthquake that hit Surigao del Sur on Monday were experienced yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the series of aftershocks struck until noon.
Phivolcs said two quakes with magnitudes of 5.0 were recorded.
One of the aftershocks which struck at around 10:25 a.m., was felt at Intensity 3 in Tandag City and Marihatag and Intensity 2 in Bayabas, all in Surigao del Sur.
The epicenter of the magnitude 5.7 quake was located in Bayabas.
The temblor was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong.
A magnitude 4.6 quake also hit Davao Occidental at 6:07 a.m. yesterday.
The quake was centered 438 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town.
Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the quakes.
