Manila village chief shot dead by riding-in-tandem

MANILA, Philippines —  A barangay captain in Tondo, Manila was shot dead yesterday afternoon by two unidentified men on a motorcycle.

Barangay 199 chairman Marcelino Ortega was standing in front of his office at the corner of Pilar and Hermosa streets when he was attacked just before 3 p.m.

Ortega died on the way to the Ospital ng Tondo. 

A source said the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has removed him from the drug watchlist. A Manila Police District official said Ortega had been working closely with the MPD’s intelligence unit to curb the illegal drug trade in his barangay.
