MANILA, Philippines - Some 3,086 families rendered homeless by Typhoon Pablo in Compostela Valley have transferred to their new homes.

The permanent shelters were built under the Modified Shelter Assistance Program (MSAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in partnership with the provincial government, which took charge of the site development, land preparation and engineering requirements.

The MSAP in Compostela Valley is part of the P2.6-billion shelter assistance program for areas hardest hit by Pablo.

The DSWD said 4,714 permanent shelters had been completed in Compostela Valley, 14,619 in Davao Oriental and 33 in Davao del Norte.

DSWD Undersecretary Angelita Gregorio-Medel, representing Secretary Corazon Soliman, led the turnover with Compostela Valley Gov. Arturo Uy, Vice Gov. Manuel Zamora and first district Rep. Ma. Carmen Zamora.
