Economist Winnie Monsod suffers mild stroke

MANILA, Philippines - Economist and television show host Solita "Winnie" Monsod suffered a mild stroke on Thursday, her home network said.

GMA Network said in a statement posted on its news website that the public affairs show host is now in good condition after suffering a mild stroke on Thursday morning.

The statement said the economist will be temporarily unable to do her hosting duties for the daily morning show "Unang Hirit."

She was also advised to take a rest and avoid accepting visitors, phone calls or text messages.

Monsod is also a newspaper columnist and a professor emeritus at the University of the Philippines Diliman School of Economics.
