NAGOYA — It was a mixed bag for Philippine athletics Sunday morning – one ticket punched, two hearts broken.

Veteran Janry Ubas kept the medal hopes alive as the 32-year-old former SEA Games champion booked his spot in the men’s long jump final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with a 7.59m clearance on his second attempt at Mizuho Park Stadium.

The mark hit the strict qualifying standard and placed him eighth overall among 12 finalists in a brutal field led by Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov at 8.00m.

“Sobrang happy kasi na-hit agad ang qualifying standard. Sobrang lakas talaga, parang final na,” Ubas said.
