Family loses P.1 M in Caloocan hotel

MANILA, Philippines - A family lost more than P100,000 in cash and valuables to burglars who broke into their hotel room in Caloocan City while they were sightseeing in Subic over the weekend, police said yesterday.

Elena Oba, 43, who is married to a Japanese, and her family arrived from Japan on Dec. 18 and stayed at the Sogo Hotel in Monumento. They said they left their hotel room door locked when they went on a two-day trip to Subic, police said.

When they returned yesterday, the Obas told police they found the door unlocked and the room in disarray. Oba reported that they lost a diamond ring worth P80,000 and P15,000 and 10,000 yen.

Police are still investigating the incident.
