Man tries bomb scare to rob restaurant

A man was arrested over the weekend after causing a bomb scare at a burger joint in Quezon City that he allegedly wanted to rob.

Suspect Junrey Adolfo was arrested shortly after bomb experts determined that the paper bag he sent to the store did not contain an improvised explosive device, said Senior Superintendent Neri Ilagan, chief of the District Mobile Force (DMF) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

Inspector Arnulfo Franco, chief of the Explosives and Ordnance Division of the QCPD-DMF, said Adolfo was identified by the boy he allegedly sent to bring the paper bag to the store.

“His intention really was to rob the store,” Franco told The STAR in an interview.

In a report, Ilagan said the incident happened at around 9 p.m. last Saturday at a burger joint along Tandang Sora Road, Barangay Culiat.

Adolfo allegedly sent the boy to bring to the store a paper bag with a note that said the bag contains an explosive which he can detonate. Ilagan said that through the note, Adolfo instructed the staff to put in the bag all the earnings of the burger joint and return the bag to the boy who delivered it.

The staff called the attention of a police officer patrolling the area, and he immediately cordoned off the burger joint and sought the help of bomb experts.

Ilagan said the bomb squad verified the bag did not contain a bomb, but six tubes about eight inches in length and 3/4-inch in diameter. The tubes were attached to some wires and an alarm clock.
