MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang acknowledged the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., saying the president remains compliant with the country's Charter.

A lawyer filed the impeachment complaint earlier Monday, January 19, citing alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust.

“The President fully upholds the Constitution and remains confident in the strength of our democratic institutions,” the Palace said in a statement.

“While these processes take their course, the President will continue to govern, ensuring that public services remain uninterrupted and that the work of government stays focused on improving the lives of our people,” it added.

Malacañang said it respects the impeachment process and expressed confidence that Congress would act according to law.

“We respect this process and trust that Congress, as a co-equal branch of government, will discharge its duties with honesty, integrity, and fidelity to the rule of law,” the statement said.

Grounds cited in complaint. The impeachment complaint cited allegations linked to the ongoing flood control investigation, which has exposed alleged corruption in infrastructure projects.

Although Marcos was the first to publicly disclose irregularities in flood control projects, the complaint alleged that the president was implicated in the controversy.

One of the grounds cited was an allegation by former House lawmaker Zaldy Co, who claimed Marcos ordered a P100 billion insertion in the 2025 national budget for kickbacks.

The impeachment complaint also cited former president Rodrigo Duterte's arrest and turnover to the International Criminal Court.
