President Marcos: Use critical thinking on online info, protect Philippine sovereignty
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos is urging young Filipinos to stand for what is true and to employ critical thinking when accessing information online, saying these are needed in the efforts to defend the Philippines’ sovereignty.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said nationalism should be instilled among the youth, whose freedoms are made possible by the sacrifices of Filipino heroes.
“The President said he won’t surrender even an inch of the Philippines. But he needs our help. He needs the people,” Castro said during a forum at the Centro Escolar University (CEU) in Manila last week.
“Be discerning about what you read online. Revive nationalism in our hearts. Stand for the truth,” she added.
Castro said the youth should continue to bring with them their nationalism until old age, noting that they only have one country.
“We need to be Filipinos at all times. You have a duty as young people. We owe our heroes (the freedom) we are enjoying now,” the Palace press officer said.
Titled “Usap Tayo, Bayan Muna” the forum sought to tackle key issues and to highlight the youth’s role in national development.
The event at CEU was the second installation of the forum launched at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines this month.
