MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights Region 12 called on law enforcement agencies to strengthen security measures in the region following a blast that ripped through a restaurant in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday.

The blast at Carlito’s Chicken Haus past 3 p.m. wounded at least 13 individuals, including children.

In a statement, Erlan Deluvio, CHR Region 12 OIC human rights director, condemned this “dastardly acts which violates our sacred right to security and right to life.”

“Whoever perpetrated this horrible act must be a madman on the loose and should not receive any amount of sympathy, much less, a legal succor from the commission,” Deluvio said.

He stressed that protection measures must be intensified and deliver the perpetrators to justice.

“For how can we cleanse this Augean stable of criminal derelicts if we only sit in the sidelines and remain remiss in our solemn duty to serve and protect our people,” Deluvio said.

Soccksargen police said the possible motive behind the bombing was extortion.

Two bomb attacks in Isulan last year killed five people and left more than 30 individuals wounded. Authorities blamed the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters for the blasts. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
