MANILA, Philippines (Updated 10:16 a.m.) — Sen. Nancy Binay is gunning for a second term in the Senate.

The senator filed her certificate of candidacy on Friday.

Binay said she chose to file on a Friday as it has a sentimental value for her. It was also a Friday when she submitted her COC in 2013 and she said she wants to make it a tradition.

She is currently the chairperson of the Senate Committees on Tourism, Cultural Communities and Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development. She has endeared herself to social media users with her witty remarks on political issues.

Should she be re-elected, Binay said she would focus on the tourism industry.

“For example, ‘yung problema sa Boracay and other tourism sites, nag-stem ‘yan sa fact na walang tourism plan, hindi napag-aralan ang carrying capacity.”

The daughter of former Vice President Jejomar Binay placed fifth in the 2013 mid-term elections and received 16,812,148 votes. — Kristine Joy Patag with Gaea Katreena Cabico
