MANILA, Philippines —The Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board on Thursday issued a resolution allowing drivers of suspended ride-sharing company Uber Systems Inc. to operate under two other transport network companies.
In Board Resolution No. 19, the regulator said it took into consideration the plight of Uber’s Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) drivers. It also issued the resolution under the guidance of the Senate Committee on Public Services, which met with LTFRB and Uber representatives on Wednesday.
“Now, therefore, the board resolves to allow Uber’s TNVS, during the period of suspension, taking into consideration those who were accredited by Uber Systems Inc., to be accommodated by either of the two accredited Transportation Network Companies, namely MYTAXI.PH Inc. Grab U-Hop,” the LTFRB said.
TNVS drivers who do not have the required certificates of public convenience or provisional authorities that grant them franchises to operate, will not be allowed to use Grab or U-Hop.
Uber’s TNVS who will operate under other TNCs should comply with the following conditions:
-
Proof of accreditation issued by Uber
-
Proof of Insurance coverage as TNVS
The resolution is effective immediately.
LTFRB said affected TNVS shall be covered by the terms and conditions of Grab and U-Hop.
The resolution was signed by LTFRB chair Martin Delgra and board members Ronaldo Corpus and Aileen Lourdes Lizada.
LTFRB’s resolution came hours after Uber filed a manifestation and motion offering to pay a P10-million fine in lieu of one month suspension.
The board ordered the suspension of Uber's accreditation for a month. The board also directed the suspension of its online booking application for the same period.
Uber temporarily suspended its service on Tuesday morning to comply with LTFRB’s directive but it also resumed its operation after filing a motion for reconsideration before the board. LTFRB however, junked the motion.
Due to Uber’s one month suspension, rival Grab Philippines said this week that it has seen a surge in demand for rides.
