Borderless Justice extends NBI’s arm
MANILA, Philippines - The government will step up efforts to go after fugitives hiding overseas to escape prosecution in the Philippines, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said yesterday.
The NBI will launch a campaign dubbed as “Borderless Justice†through a fun run at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City on Sept. 14, according to lawyer Daniel Daganzo, chief of the NBI Foreign Liaison Division (FLD).
Representatives from foreign embassies are expected to attend the event.
“There is a need to create public awareness that the government can still go after Filipino and foreign fugitives who have left the country,†Daganzo said.
Lawyer Arnold Rosales, executive officer of NBI-FLD, said Borderless Justice aims to extend the arm of the law to any part of the world.
Rosales said the campaign is not limited to countries where the Philippines has an extradition treaty such as Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Micronesia, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United States.
“This would include countries where the Philippines has no extradition treaty,†he added.
