4 soldiers dead, 10 hurt in Sayyaf raid

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Four soldiers were killed and 10 others wounded yesterday when suspected Abu Sayyaf extremists attacked a Marine camp in a village in Sulu, a military official said.

The attack sparked a brief firefight, which also left an undetermined number of attackers either killed or wounded, according to Maj. Eugene Batara Jr., spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command.

The suspected militants attacked the headquarters of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 11 in Barangay Bon-bon in Patikul, Sulu with a barrage of mortars and assault weapons at around 6:50 a.m. yesterday.   – Roel Pareño
