Lt. Gen. Lawrence Nicholson opens the 2018 Philippines-US Balikatan exercises.

"Today, reaffirm our commitment to each other. Today, we reaffirm our alliance for more than 70 years," Nicholson says.

Armed Forces chief Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez acknowledges the participation of Australian and Japanese forces at this year's Balikatan exercises.

Also present at the opening ceremony are Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana and US Ambassador Sung Kim, Philstar.com's Patricia Lourdes Viray reports.

The annual exercises between the American and Philippine militaries are opening today at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
