Macrohon narrowly misses podium finish

NAGOYA – Kristel Macrohon missed a podium finish by 2 kilograms Sunday, finishing fourth in the women’s 69-kilogram division a day after Albert Ian delos Santos gave the Philippines a bronze medal in weightlifting at the Asian Games.

Macrohon totaled 227 kilograms – 102 in the snatch and 125 in the clean and jerk – at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Centre. She finished two kilograms behind bronze medalist Ingrid Grueso of Bahrain, who totaled 229 kilograms.

Macrohon, 30, a gold medalist at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, was third after the snatch.

She was called for a no-lift on her opening clean and jerk at 124 kilograms for a bending and extension of the arms violation. The Philippines challenged, but the call stood. Macrohon failed at 124 kilograms on her second attempt before making 125 kilograms on her third and final lift to briefly move into first.
